the thing about taking medication for clinical depression is that, if the medicine is working, one is less inclined to continue taking it. when i'm happy, i don't think "i'd better take a pill today." and so, i miss dosages once in a while--the past three weeks, for instance.
when i first began working at the group home, i thought it was a relatively easy job... dispense medication, help with grocery shopping, encourage the men to do their chores, cook meals here and there, and a lot of driving (the biggest vehicle i've ever driven). without medication, the job is very difficult. a situation where i would normally be only slightly bothered--if a resident refuses to complete a chore, for instance--becomes a situation in which i am livid. i don't like to discuss my problem with people when i have forgotten my medication because it's embarrassing to let such a simple fix slip my mind. because taking medication is my responsibility, any depression or anger resulting from my failure is completely my fault. that is a tough pill to swallow.
i met with the head of the english department and found out some details about my teaching job. i'm teaching two sections of ENG 111... one at 8:00 MWF and one at 12:00 MWF. never in my college career did i take an 8 a.m. class in searcy. now i am teaching one. dr. williams says my personality would work well with an 8 a.m. group. we shall see. i'm mostly excited that i will be able to get into the habit of going to bed at a normal hour. (theoretically.)
our house looks incredible, which is encouraging since we've been working on it pretty much nonstop for about two weeks. our living room is green, my room is blue, katie's room is orange, our bathroom is yellow, our kitchen is brown, and our cabinets are red. austin was looking for a white background to take some pictures of items he's selling on ebay... he couldn't find one. i was proud. pictures are coming as soon as things are better put away.
even with the bright colors, the house was lacking something. so katie and i got two cats. their names are elliott (for elliott smith) and marlow (for joseph conrad's heart of darkness character). also, they are incredible.
